Walking across the field that afternoon the man and his
daughter had come across the young man picking mushrooms.
They greeted him simply, commented about the chill, damp day and continued on their walk.
The younger man returned to his now shattered day dreaming while the man and his daughter continued on their way, concluding a queer conversation about the animals they had carefully placed on the opposite side of the valley that morning.
Later that week, in the local newspaper, the man and his daughter spotted a picture of the young man and a short report about his tragic accident at sea.
They smiled at each other with relief, recalling the conversation they’d had with him. They also spoke briefly and secretly about his sad ending and then continued constructing their models for the valley.

I'd add improvisation too actually.
When I get the idea for a story I usually write quickly. Catch the moment.
Most short story writers I know, and like, tell me they do the same.

O.K.
So...learned skills on my first
3-5 in nasty Clink Hotel
up North.
Was probably busiest
when stoneheads
took over operations
down south.
Word got round.
Useful skills mine.
Well; used to be.
Could always,
and I mean always,
keep my mouth shut
and get job done.
And when I's outside?
I got protected.
Which was useful.
And next time
I got banged up
I could soon pick up
where I left off.

Q: I understand objections to order, but are you questioning authority or society?
A: Sitting a bit on the fence here, I guess I'd rather leave that up to the reader.
Are my objections so clear cut? I'm not sure really.
I don't feel uncomfortable being objectionable to those who should know, and do, better! It's just my idea of being just and fair.
